This 1-day course will cover the necessary DIY skills that will allow learners to tackle most household tasks. The course is suitable for those with little or no experience of DIY and aims to provide learners with the skills that will enable them to carry out maintenance around the home.
Types of tools, woods and other materials; workbench options and how to stay safe. Drilling, cutting & fixing
Different drills, what they do and how to use them safely; types of screws, fittings and fastenings.
Shelves, doors & hinges up shelves, pictures and curtain rails; how to fix and adjust wobbly hinges, and lose door handles
Use of silicon sealants
Changing an electrical socket
Changing a light fitting
Fitting a dimmer switch
Wiring a plug
Use of fittings to repair burst pipes
You'll also be making something useful to take home with you.
None, all welcome.
You will be supplied with your own gloves and safety glasses (and mask if required), however feel free to bring your own if you prefer to wear them . We do not recommend that contact lenses are worn as the area is dusty.
You will need to wear sturdy shoes or Boots not trauiners. We can supply boots at £20.00 if you need a pair. We stock sizes 3-13.
Please wear clothes suitable for dusty work, sensible shoes and bring your own lunch.
There are a variety of local shops and café's nearby if you wish to buy lunch or you can bring a packed lunch with you and eat it in our breakout area.
Tea and coffee are provided throughout the day.
